Goodbye... For Now?

Hello everyone, as by the title, this is likely to be my last post here. I want to talk about how this course has affected my perspective in language teaching. The most obvious one is the whole blogging period, where i had the chance to write down my thoughts while completing the assignments. This made me much more comfortable, as for the first time in years, i was not forced to write down something with 50 different formal standards, like in essays or articles. This made me realize that i actually really enjoy writing down my thoughts, as i can express myself much more freely compared to classroom talking. Throughout the course, we did many things that i did not even think of doing before, podcasts, blogs, film reviews... These didn't really feel like assignments when doing them, they were not stressful or boring, in fact i actually enjoyed every single assignment i had for this course which is a first for me in my whole education life. I especially enjoyed the assignments where we were in groups, my favourite namely the film review assignment. It was very fun to group up with my friends and pick a movie that we like, and talk about it. And doing it as an assignment? The whole course felt like a holiday to be honest. It was a very enjoyable process from the beginning to the end, and maybe i will keep posting some things from my life even after the course is over, because i realized that i really do enjoy this. For now though, this will probably be the last post for a while, so take care!

AI and Corpus Based Material Task: I'm Back!!

Hello everyone! After around 5 months, I'm back with yet another post, another assignment. This was an assignment for our Current Issues in Teaching class, and as obvious by the title, it was a material preparation task that utilizes Corpus and AI. To explain it briefly, we had to prepare a worksheet that enabled the learners to use corpus and genAI to complete certain tasks about "since" and "for." Another thing that we had to do was a lesson plan of this worksheet that is prepared by following the ASSURE model's principles and evaluative categories. For me personally, having to come up with creative ways to integrate both corpus and AI into a topic that most of us learnead very traditionally in the past was quite fun and interesting. It was a group work, with me and two of my friends(Tufan and Demirali), have used canva for the design of the worksheet, and utilized Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) together with genAI tools such as ChatGP...

AR/VR Integrated Lesson Plan: Does Technology Even Have a Limit?

Welcome back everyone! As mentioned in the title, this post is going to be about AR/VR integration into ELT.      For startes, we had to prepare a handout in which we introduced 2 landmarks and 1 museum through AR/VR components and supplementary Skill-spesific activities. Me and my friends (Demirali Kılıç, Tufan Gürültü and Zeynep Yeşildağ) decided to pick Prague, Czech Republic (%99 of it being my influence) for this activity. Prague is a beautiful city with a very rich history behind its every street and building, there were so many beautiful landmarks to choose from but we decided to go with the most popular ones, being the Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, and the National Gallery of Prague. We used 360 tour guides from youtube for the first two, and for the Gallery, there is a real-life interactive map of the ENTIRE gallery up to date, which came in very handy and added more depth to our handout. We, of course, prepared a lesson plan according to ASSURE Model'...

Flipped Learning: An Unorthodox Approach to Teaching

Hi everyone! Today, i'm posting about another assignment, which is visible in the title, about flipped learning. Based from my understanding, it is possible to explain it as an approach to create more room for practice and varied activities in the classroom by moving the "lecturing" part into a homework-like form. Basically, you provide students with videos and materials to go through when they are outside the classroom, and when they come, they already have an idea about the topic that you will now go through in a better way with activities since you no longer need to spend half the time you have lecturing. I think it's a great approach, and i had a lot of fun preparing a video regarding it with my friends. My friends and i have chosen "simple present tense" as our topic and prepared a 5-minute video on canva explaining it. After that, there is a 15-question quiz about simple present tense at the end of the video that we prepared by using WordWall, and an ...
